HOLLY SPURRELL

ASSOCIATE LAWYER

Holly obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University of Edmonton in 2017.  She completed a major in Sociology and a minor in Philosophy, and graduated with distinction. Her studies afforded her with a keen and compassionate understanding of the factors that bring individuals before the criminal justice system, and the role that system plays in our society at large.

Holly attended the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 2017 where she quickly developed her already avid interest in criminal law. She volunteered for the Criminal Law Project with

Student Legal Services throughout her three years in law school, devoting her time to assisting low-income individuals facing criminal charges. During this time, Holly nurtured her passion for criminal law and procedure, and came to cherish the privilege of fiercely advocating for others in the pursuit of justice.

Holly has also developed a passion for appellate advocacy. She competed in the Alberta Court of Appeal Criminal Law Moot in 2019 as well as the Clinton J Ford Moot in 2020, and was victorious at both moots. She also worked as a summer student on matters that went before the Supreme Court of Canada. As she continues to work on appellate matters, her enthusiasm for appellate work continues to flourish.

Holly graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 2020 and became an Associate Lawyer at Sprake & Co. following her call to the Bar in 2021.
